Maryland State Superintendent of Schools Lillian Lowery approved a two-day waiver request from Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS), after a previous four-day waiver request was declined. As a result of severe weather conditions, PGCPS has closed a total of eight instructional days this school year.
Prior to the start of the academic year, PGCPS built four inclement weather make-up days into the current academic calendar. With the approved two-day waiver, PGCPS will be able to fulfill the state mandate of providing 180-days of instruction per year. In fulfilling this requirement PGCPS has modified the school calendar by extending the current school year by two days.
Thursday, June 12 will be a full day of instruction, and Friday, June 13 will be a half-day of instruction.
PGCPS will not alter the spring break closure dates. PGCPS will remain closed for students Monday, April 14 – Monday, April 21. The grading period will be adjusted accordingly. The last day for teachers will be determined at a later time.
