The Greater Camp Springs/Morningside Sustainable Community Area encompasses the incorporated Town of Morningside as well as portions of the unincorporated Camp Springs community. Located adjacent to Joint Base Andrews, it includes one of the state’s Base Realignment and Closure zones in addition to the Branch Avenue Metro station, a state-designated Transit Oriented Development zone. Since the majority of the development occurred in this area before the opening of the metro station, Prince George’s County plans to focus improvement efforts on facilitating pedestrian access to the metro station. Immediate plans include the addition of pedestrian scale lighting, public art and mural paintings, contrasting sidewalk and crosswalk pavement and constructing a pedestrian refuge. The county will also be supporting the redevelopment of older commercial centers and constructing recreational facilities.
