The People for Change Coalition (PFC Coalition) has launched a county-wide campaign to secure 10,000 summer jobs and create a youth development program.
This initiative will focus on exposing youth to highly skilled jobs and developing career paths.
We need the County Executive to make this a TOP PRIORITY in the FY 2016 Budget.
We are calling on Students, Parents, Businesses, Nonprofits, Civic Groups and Community Leaders to get Involved!
- Prince George’s County High Schools have 34,767 students enrolled in the current school year.
- Prince George’s County government placed only 672 youth ages 15 – 19 in summer jobs in 2014.
- Summer Youth Jobs is not listed as one of the Countywide priorities for the FY 2016 Proposed Budget.
So where are the County dollars going? According to the FY 2015 Budget, (click on link) we spent:
$1.8 Billion – School System
$580.2 Million – Public Safety
$210.3 Million – Grant Program Fund
And, according to a recent Gazette article, the Superintendent is asking for an additional $53.5 million in his current budget– He already gets $1.8 billion. WHAT ABOUT SUMMER JOBS FOR THE KIDS????
Register online now to attend this important event.
We all must make this a TOP PRIORITY and a line item in our FY 2016 Budget and beyond!
