Update on Graduation Rates Audit | Actualización sobre la auditoría de las tasas de graduación

PGCPS Announcement Banner

Dear Prince George’s County Public Schools Community,

Academic integrity continues to be the cornerstone of our work. Starting this week, Alvarez & Marsal Public Sector Services (A&M) will begin interviews as part of its follow-up review of last year’s graduation rates audit. Central office interviews will be held this week, followed by school-based staff interviews on Monday, July 23. Prince George’s County Public Schools previously announced plans to work with an independent auditor in our response to the audit. Earlier this spring, the Maryland State Department of Education hired A&M to perform the work.

Their review will broadly assess the Action Plan and its responsiveness, review 2017-18 senior student records, and document our progress and lessons learned. The firm will examine oversight of the Action Plan, related professional development, communication, and our procedures and processes for graduation certification, grading and accountability.

As a system, our shared goal is to prepare students for the rigors of higher education and the workplace. Diplomas and grades must reflect high academic standards and strong accountability systems. We owe no less to our students and their futures.

I look forward to receiving their analysis of our growth and progress as we seek to improve our actions to ensure academic excellence for all students.

I want to thank you in advance for communicating openly with A&M and sharing any information needed to help complete their work.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Monica E. Goldson, Ed.D.

Acting Chief Executive Officer
