Volunteers,
Our County Executive, Rushern Baker has requested the communities in Prince George’s County to participate in for the Sixth Annual Countywide “Clean Up, Green Up” event on Saturday, October 29, 2016. The Camp Springs Civic Association, Inc will be participating in the clean up event scheduled for Saturday, October 29 from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

If you are interested in joining us for the Clean-up, please meet us on Saturday, October 29 at the Thrift Store parking lot located at 6307 Allentown Road (Allentown and Old Branch Avenue) at 8:00 am at which time you will be assigned an area and receive supplies. Go Green This Halloween and Compost Your Pumpkin!

Prince George's County: Subscribe MyPGC

The Prince George’s County Department of the Environment (DoE) is pleased to announce that it will collect pumpkins for composting on Monday, November 7, 2016 and Monday, November 14, 2016. In addition to pumpkins, dried corn, hay and straw will also be picked-up for composting along with yard trim.

“Our annual Pumpkin Composting Program provides us with the opportunity to divert tons of Halloween decorations and jack-o’-lanterns from the landfill and use these valuable resources to create Leafgro GOLD—a nutrient-rich soil amendment, which is sold in local garden centers and used in the White House vegetable garden,” said Adam Ortiz, DoE Director.

Items should be placed curbside by 7 a.m. for pickup. Pumpkins are not required to be bagged, but paper lawn/leaf bags must be used if residents choose to bag their items for collection. Pumpkins should be free of inorganic materials such as candles, wax, artificial lighting and loose decorations.

Residents may also drop off pumpkins and other yard trim for composting at the County’s Public Convenience Centers located in Upper Marlboro and Brandywine.

Help your Department of the Environment spread the word about pumpkin composting by sharing the flyer below with your friends, family and neighbors. For more information, contact County Click at 3-1-1.
