Community in the Courthouse! Friday, December, 20th

Friends and Neighbors –
Just wanted to send you a quick note to remind you that our next Community in the Courthouse is this Friday, December 20, 2013. We will meet at 8:30 a.m. in room 0421M (ground floor) of the Prince George’s County Courthouse located on Main Street in Upper Marlboro.
We will welcome Assistant State’s Attorneys, Kenneth A. Grigg and Doyle Neimann, both from the Office of the State’s Attorney for Prince George’s County. You will have a first-hand opportunity to learn about ways to prevent identity theft.
Last year, an estimated 16.6 million people, representing seven percent of Americans 16 or older, experienced at least one incident of identity theft. Financial losses from identity theft totaled $24.7 billion and about 14 percent of victims suffered an out-of-pocket financial loss due to their most recent incident of identity theft.
In 2012, the misuse or attempted misuse of an existing account was the most common type of identity theft, according to the Bureau of Justice Statistics. We live in a consumer driven society and likely expose our personal and financial information on a daily basis. It is important for all of us to learn ways to protect ourselves from financial predators, and our guest speakers will certainly provide insight on the matter.
I am looking forward to a great conversation. Please consider bringing a friend or neighbor to our meeting. I would surely be interested in meeting and welcoming all those who are involved in Prince George’s County.
Please RSVP to Michael Summers so that we can be sure we have enough coffee and light breakfast food for the group!
Sincerely,
Angela D. Alsobrooks
State’s Attorney
Would-Be Armed Robbery Victim Shoots Suspect

Ashley Tomika McCrae
The Prince George’s County Police Department is investigating an attempted robbery outside of a Camp Springs home. During the incident, the victim shot the suspect. The victim is a Metropolitan Police Department officer.
On December 15, 2013, at about 4:15 am, patrol officers responded to the 6000 block of Hope Drive for a shooting. Once on scene, the patrol officers spoke with the victim. The preliminary investigation suggests the homeowner had just arrived home when he was approached by a female suspect. The suspect was armed with a shotgun and made demands. The homeowner shot the suspect. The suspect then got into a nearby car and fled the scene.
A short time later, PGPD detectives were called to a hospital in Washington D.C. for a walk-in patient with gunshot wounds. Detectives have linked that patient to the attempted robbery in Camp Springs. She is identified as 26-year-old Ashley Tomika McCrae, of the 3500 block of 6th Street in Southeast Washington.
McCrae’s weapon and the car used in the crime have been recovered. McCrae remains hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries. The homeowner was not injured. McCrae will face charges related to the attempted armed robbery.
For additional information about the MPDC officer, please contact the Metropolitan Police Department at (202) 727-4383.
Anyone with additional information about this case is asked to call the Prince George’s County Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division (301) 772-4925.
