The Prince George’s County Public School System, which routinely starts each school year with dozens of teacher vacancies, is holding a job fair on Saturday to recruit teachers.
The school district is encouraging candidates to pre-register for the fair, which will be held at Northwestern High School in Hyattsville.
Interviews will be conducted between 7:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. for pre-screened registrants.
The district is looking specifically for teachers with certification in the following areas: Elementary, English, ESOL, Family and Consumer Science, Mathematics, Montessori, Music (instrumental and vocal), Science, Spanish and Special Education.
Max Pugh, a spokesman for the school system, said the district began the school year school last year with 38 openings, mostly in special education. The district will host a recruitment fair specifically for ESOL and Special Education teachers in mid-May.
The school system is likely to have more vacancies next year when school reopens in August because the district has decided not to extend the visas of teachers from overseas.
