Dear Parents, Students and Community Members:

There is great excitement about the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year.  On behalf of the Board of Education, I want to thank all who organized various back to school activities to support our students, teachers and other staff.  The Board deeply appreciates the contributions made by federal, state and local elected officials; the faith community; civic organizations; and the business community to help with the opening of schools for our 132,000 students and approximately 20,000 teachers and other staff members. We are excited to be starting the school year under the operational leadership of Dr. Monica Goldson as our permanent Chief Executive Officer.

On September 3^rd, from the time that our schools open their doors for our students to the ringing of the bell to end the school day, we want our students to have a great first day of school as the beginning of an awesome 2019-2020 school year. We encourage parents and guardians to do the following to help with the beginning of school:

• Ensure that your children are well rested and fed;
• Accompany your children to school;
• Get to know your children’s principals, teachers and other staff in your schools;
• Check SchoolMax weekly for updates and announcements;
• Ask for help when needed regarding opening of school issues or any other concerns/challenges your family may have that will impact your children’s education; and
• Seek to get involved with and support your children’s schools by joining the PTA or other support organizations.

We are encouraged by the broad positive consensus that has emerged about what is necessary to ensure that all of our children have access to excellent education. There is an evolving positive narrative about our school system and the diverse students it serves. In this environment, we can work together to ensure that our children receive the best education possible with the support of our County Executive and County Council, municipal leaders, and members of the General Assembly and Congress.

We will work collaboratively and hard to build upon the progress we made during the last school year, focusing on securing adequate and equitable funding for our school system, renovation and construction of modern schools for our children, and ensuring programmatic and fiscal accountability and transparency.

Working together, we will be stronger and part of the Blueprint for the Future of Prince George’s County!

Hay mucha emoción por el inicio del año escolar 2019-2020. En nombre de la Junta de Educación, quisiera expresar mi agradecimiento a todos aquellos que organizaron numerosas actividades para el regreso a clases, con el fin de apoyar a nuestros estudiantes, maestros y personal. La Junta aprecia enormemente las contribuciones que aportaron los oficiales electos a nivel federal, estatal y local, la comunidad de fe, las organizaones cívicas y la comunidad empresarial para ayudar con el inicio del año escolar para los aproximadamente 132,000 estudiantes y 20,000 maestros y miembros del personal. Nos entusiasma inaugurar el año escolar bajo la dirección operacional de la Dra. Monica Goldson como nuestra directora ejecutiva permanente.

El 3 de septiembre, desde el momento en el que nuestras escuelas abran sus puertas para los estudiantes, hasta el toque de campana que señala el final del día escolar, deseamos que nuestros estudiantes tengan un gran primer día de clases para arrancar el año escolar 2019-2020. • Únanse a la Asociación de Padres y Maestros u otras organizaciones complementarias para comprometerse a apoyar las escuelas de sus hijos.

Nos inspira el consenso positivo general que existe con respecto a lo necesario para garantizar que todos los niños tengan acceso a la educación de alta calidad. Va evolucionando una narrativa positiva sobre nuestro sistema escolar y los estudiantes diversos a los que sirve. Este entorno nos facilita la colaboración para garantizar que nuestros niños reciban la mejor educación posible con el apoyo del ejecutivo y el Consejo del condado, los líderes municipales y los miembros de la Asamblea General y del Congreso.

Trabajaremos colectiva y arduamente para ampliar el progreso que logramos durante el año escolar pasado. Nos centraremos en obtener financiación adecuada y equitativa para nuestro sistema escolar, renovar y construir escuelas modernas para nuestros niños y asegurar la responsabilidad y transparencia fiscal y programática.
