Dear Prince Georgians:
September 15 marked the start of Hispanic Heritage Month, which will continue through October 15. While the celebrations will look much different this year, we want to take some time to honor and celebrate the contributions of our Latino community to our County, State and nation. The rich culture, history and diversity of our County, including within our Latino community, continues to be one of our many strengths.
Throughout my administration, we have been committed to addressing issues of vital importance to the Latino community. We have held steadfast to that commitment during this unprecedented pandemic, working to ensure that critical updates are available in both English and Spanish, and that some of our hardest-hit communities receive the resources that they need.
I want to thank all of our County Government staff who have worked hard on these efforts to support the community, including our Latino Advisory Board. I also want to thank all the community partners and elected officials who have worked with us to distribute information, food and other critical resources in this time of need.
Over the next several weeks, Prince George’s County will host a number of events in recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month. In addition, the County’s Economic Development Corporation will be highlighting Latino-owned restaurants as part of their “Takeout Tuesday” series. More information on those events and initiatives is included below, and I hope you will take some time to tune in to one or more of these virtual opportunities as we celebrate the rich culture and heritage of our Latino community.
While 2020 has been a tough year, please know that as your County Executive, I have your back and will continue to do everything I can to support all our communities. We are Prince George’s Proud, and we will continue moving forward together.
Yours in service,
Angela Alsobrooks
Prince George’s County Executive
